Positioned between the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges, DUMBO House offers panoramic views of the New York skyline
Occupying the sixth and seventh floors of a former brick factory, Mexican architect Luis Barragán was a huge inspiration for the Soho House design team, influencing both the interior and exterior spaces of DUMBO House. Known for his bold and colourful houses, it was this playful use of colour that inspired the pink concrete roof used on the rooftop bar, as well as lots of rich velvet furnishings in purple, ochre and teal.
The interiors channel DUMBO's 1960s and 1970s heyday with many elements of that retro decor style - think thick pile rugs, wicker furnishings and our House favourite Garret armchair in boucle upholstery.
Those on New York's creative scene 'were drawn to the lofty warehouse spaces, which provided light and inexpensive rent,' explains Senior Interior Designer, Staver Kaufman. This is where the emphasis is placed on bringing the outdoors in with floor to ceiling windows, making the most of the New York City skyline views. As Soho House Founder, Nick Jones, describes:
Shop our DUMBO House-inspired Chiara chandelier, which features rose or green-tinted, glass tubular sections that are mouth-blown and hand-finished by skilled artisans in Venice
‘There is always that magical moment in the evening when the sun starts to set and you can watch as Brooklyn Bridge and the city light up, sitting on the terrace with a Negroni in hand – I don’t think that could ever get old’
Nick Jones, Soho House Founder
